Shell CEO Mr. Ben van Beurden Visited CSPC

On the morning of May 2nd, Royal Dutch Shell CEO Mr. Ben van Beurden visited CSPC to express his truly congratulation to C2 successful startup, accompanied by Graham van’t Hoff, EVP Shell Chemicals and CSPC Vice Chairman.


Mr. Ben van Beurden visited C2 zone 1, zone 2, CCR3, and extended congratulations to front operators. In the town hall session, he pointed out that as Shell’s largest investment project in China, C2 successful startup is of great significance to Shell and he is grateful for the hard work and dedication of all CSPC staff. Since the startup of C1 in 2006, CSPC has maintained excellent safety, environmental protection, economic and social performance, and has achieved the successful startup of C2, as the former chairman of CSPC, he is very proud of all the achievement. He believes the C2 successful startup and the advantages of deep refinery and petrochemical integration will help CSPC to become the "Best Petrochemical Company" in China, even worldwide. Shell is very grateful for the outstanding project delivery of CNOOC and will continue to explore the longer-term development with CNOOC.


Furthermore, Mr. Ben van Beurden shared Shell’s “Goal Zero”, the prevention of "Risk normalization" and other concepts, and hoped that CSPC to ensure the operational excellence, safety and stabilization of C1 and C2 on the premise of safety first.


In the afternoon, Mr. Ben van Beurden and his delegation visited Mr.Ma Xingrui, Guangdong Governor in Guangzhou, accompanied by  Marjo Crompvoets, Dutch Consul General in Guangzhou,Huizhou major leader Chen Yiwei, Liu Ji and CSPC CEO Wang Qiong, DCEO Colin McKendrick. Mr. Ma Xingrui said that the C2 successful construction completion and startup is another successful example of bilateral cooperation. He hopes that Shell will continue to exert its technological advantages, enlarge and strengthen CSPC, help Guangdong to promote energy restructuring, deepen supply-side structural reforms, and support the transformation and upgrading of Guangdong petrochemical industry.


Mr. Ben van Beurden expressed that on the basis of operation excellence of C1 and C2, relying on Daya Bay petrochemical industry base, Shell is willing to further increase investment, explore the LNG business cooperation, bring out the best technology and products to the Chinese market, and make positive contributions to Guangdong to build a world-class petrochemical base and the development of industrial cluster.
